Pendle Wavelengths
Pendle Wavelengths Leisure Centre was destroyed by fire leaving just a shell space. Sauna360 was commissioned to redesign the entire space including all thermal experiences, to comply with the like for like insurance requirements but were also able to make huge improvements in the aesthetics of the rooms and space. We used wide glass fronts to the thermal rooms and showers. This created a spacious feel and expressed the finishes within each room. The open feeling allows bathers to gauge occupancy levels at a glance and therefore feel comfortable in their choice of thermal experience.
Large format tiles with decorative mosaic banding run throughout the design in subtly varying tones. The centrepiece Vitality spa sets off the whole scheme which surpasses many a luxury hotel health suite.
Aroma steam room
The large steam room has a central steam column which safely provides fresh air with steam and seasonal essences into the room. The slight negative pressure retains steam within the room for maximum bather enjoyment.
Salt steam room
The thermal room enjoys the usual steam and essence but is further enhanced by the periodic introduction of a fine salt spray from the ceiling. The salt inhalation aids the respiratory system and is particularly effective with the steam.
Feature showers
Two feature showers are provided with effects from a light canopy. Each has three programs providing warm, tropical rain with fragrance, cool mist with Icy Mint and combination cleansing shower for warming, cooling and massage. The programs are between 25-45 seconds for economic use of water but provide a memorable, pleasant experience.
Vitality sauna
The sauna is heated by a TyloHelo Laava heater with large capacity of stone for excellent infusion of water and seasonal herbal essence. Spacious with wide benches for sitting or reclining. Under bench lighting and ceiling spots also highlight the black slate effect wall surrounding the heater. The sauna has its own fire suppressant system.
Ice feature
A decorative copper ice bowl and chute sits neatly in a mosaic tiled semi-circular recess. The ice in the bowl is lit from above and below. The ice level is automatically controlled by a sensor within the bowl so as to be permanently filled for the bather.
Foot spas
Four foot spas provide an excellent preparation for a thermal experience by encouraging the circulation. The foot spas can be used in the kneipp style of alternating warm and cold or with a gentle air massage requested via a simple push button.
Rasul
A four person Rasul has the same contemporary style large format tiles. The “mud ritual” is an automated experience to allow the muds to enhance the skin within a pleasant steam environment. Gentle colour change lighting enhances the warming, humid, drying and showering phases of the program. This “pay for play” facility has an adjoined ante room for private changing.
Herbal bath
A lovely combination of gentle heat and humidity from a Bi-O-Max sauna heater. Theatre is added to the experience through regular sauna infusion of water and seasonal essence onto a copper tray above the heater.
Vitality Spa
The large mosaic tiled spa shell was delivered in two sections for access and joined on site with a seamless joint. The shell has two contoured loungers, back massage station, air massage and two water cannons for neck and back massage. All features controlled from the spa via stainless steel piezo buttons. Behind the scenes new filtration, automatic chemical control and dosing have greatly improved the system and running costs.
